It wasn’t that I was surprised, really. It was so simple for him to lie that it had struck me, at many points, that he could be doing something much larger with his time. I suppose I always hoped things would stay the same, until they couldn’t any more. And then, maybe…maybe it would get better, instead of getting worse.
